For the launch night of the Sleep & Eat hospitality tradeshow, Bathroom specialists Bette invited myself and fellow illustrator and friend Jessica Sian to decorate their showcase BettePond Silhouette round bathtub.
The brief was to create an artwork live in front of visitors, using permanent markers that would usually stain a bath. However, thanks to the Silhoutte’s easy-clean glazed surface, the bathtub would be wiped down in sections during the two day event – bringing it back to looking brand new.
Jessica and I worked in collaboration to design the London Skyline illustration, making use of the seamless round surface, using reference images taken from the Tate Modern observation deck.
Not only did the artwork generate a lot of conversation and attention for the stand – but also the process of live illustration was a notably good fit for a trade show. Our presence and eagerness to interact with the audience naturally broke the ice, and many visitors came to watch us and engage in conversation about the city, and the novelty of drawing on a bathtub!
